Let’s snack!

Do you ever find yourself wanting to devour everything in the kitchen around 3pm from hunger pains? Instead of reaching for unhealthy options,  my go-to snack that curbs my appetite and satisfies my cravings is the potassium filled banana. The usual grab, peel and go is satisfying, but boring. Lately I’ve been playing around with different ways to make my snacks seem more like delicious treats.

One of my favorite ways to switch up the normal banana routine is to put it in the oven, under the broiler. Just peel the banana, cut it in half, lengthwise, and then I usually sprinkle a tiny bit of brown sugar on top. Place the bananas under the broiler (high) for 4 minutes. Sprinkle with cinnamon and you have yourself a delicious and sweet snack and even a simple dessert. You could even top it with some raw honey, which is my favorite.

My other favorite go-to mid afternoon snack is greek yogurt with raspberries, slivered almonds, cinnamon, chia seeds and truvia. Truvia is a zero calorie, natural and organic sweetener. The greek yogurt is filled with protein and I always grab the 0%, which  has zero fat. The almonds add in some healthy fats while you’re getting energy and antioxidants from the chia seeds and raspberries. Cinnamon is also a great anti inflammatory agent and has been said to ward off cravings. I also add a little bit of organic agave nectar on top, probably a teaspoon. You can omit the agave if you want, considering bananas are naturally sweet.
