It’s that 3-4 p.m. hour that often gets most people reaching for a bag of chips or a quick fix. Opt for healthy snacks filled with protein, fiber and healthy fats. The combination of the three will keep you full and satisfied til your next meal.
My snack of choice?
Either low-fat cottage cheese or 0% Greek yogurt, mixed with cinnamon, coconut shreds, almonds, flax seeds, cacao nibs and apple slices.
Cottage cheese and Greek yogurt are both low in fat and full of protein. Almonds are a rich source of Vitamin E, potassium and healthy fats. Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory properties and helps control blood sugar levels. Coconut shreds (basically the meat) add in a nice texture while also containing potassium and dietary fiber. Cacao, which is chocolate in its raw form, tastes like a mixture of coffee, nuts and chocolate. I love the crunch and it satisfies my sweet tooth without the added sugars. Apples are full of fiber, vitamin c, and pectin, which helps lower (LDL) cholesterol.
PS…I’m obsessed with coconuts.
